In a statement he gave at his arrival in Damascus International Airport, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al Thani expressed his happiness about visiting Syria and stated that he was carrying a verbal message from His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani the Emir of Qatar to the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad dealing with bilateral ties besides the situation in the region.
The First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister said he was accompanied by an economic delegation including representatives from the Finance Ministry and Diar Company; and indicated that the delegation is going to resume with the Syrian officials their discussion of the issues that were addressed previously to agree on them.
On the Qatari efforts to contain the crisis between Syria and Lebanon, the Minister said: "We will discuss all matters of interest to the two countries, and the situation in the region in general, but there is no plan to discuss the tension between them." He added that they will explore any chances to clam down the situation between the two sisterly countries, Syria and Lebanon - an issue that His Highness the Emir cares about very much.
On referral of the Syrian file to UN Security Council, and Qatar's role as a non-permanent member of the Council, the Minister said that up till now nothing official reached the Council, but if it happens, it will be discussed on the basis of the international logic and justice.
