HE Al-Nasser Concludes Argentina Visit |
|Buenos Aires/(QNA)/17 July 2012/ UN General Assembly President, HE Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser expressed hope to reach a peaceful solution on the conflict between Argentina and the UK over the Falklands Islands through dialogue and mediation.|
During a meeting held here with the Argentinean Foreign Minister Hector Timerman and a number of senior official, HE Al-Nasser reviewed the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
HE Al- Nasser, who concluded yesterday an official visit to Argentina, also briefed the Argentinian diplomats on his vision for a global action plan to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by their 2015 target date.
Talks during the meeting also dealt with a number of international issues of mutual concern including the latest developments in Syria and the global economic and financial situation, the General Assembly President told Qatar News Agency (QNA).
During the visit, HE Al-Nasser has delivered a lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of Argentina, where he praised the important role played by Argentina, both at the regional and international levels, referring to its participation in international peacekeeping efforts and presidency of the Group of 77 and China during 2011while adopting a set of measures to strengthen South-South cooperation.
He also outlined the four main pillars on the agenda of the 66th session of the General Assembly, which are: the peaceful settlement of disputes; UN reform and revitalization; improving disaster prevention and response; and sustainable development and global prosperity.
